Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary contact with relevant business regulators.
- Provide prompt and practical regulatory and legal advice in support of the business.
- Manage regulatory filings and notifications, including the authorization and licensing of relevant Company legal entities and employees.
- Manage and oversee regulatory examinations/inspections.
- Conduct investigations into compliance and/or ethics issues.
- To carry out duties as the data privacy officer and identifying, implementing, overseeing and monitoring data privacy issues.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures to support and promote regulatory compliance and a culture of integrity.
- Promote awareness and responsibility through regular communication and training, including developing and conducting regular training for Company personnel.
- Facilitate Company's risk management process, conducting risk assessments and maintaining risk registers, and organizing/managing risk committees as relevant.
- Responsible for delivery of efficient contract reviews and developing policies and controls relating to contract management.
- Identify potential legal, risk and compliance issues associated with new products and services and implementing appropriate measures to address these.
- Conduct periodic monitoring and compliance assessments to confirm compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies and standards.
- Work with Company's business and functional units to determine corrective actions for relevant issues, including Errors & Omissions and other claims against the business.
- Prepare legal, risk and compliance reports for business leaders and senior members of the LCPA function.
- Provide support to senior business leaders on obligations relating to their office under the general law and specific company articles with particular reference to directors.
- Support M&A activity.
- Proactive involvement in the activities underpinning the global objectives of the company's Legal and Compliance Department through participation in working groups or committees.
- Select, appoint and manage external counsel as needed.
Candidate Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a legal and/or compliance role in the insurance industry in Hong Kong.
- Familiarity with data privacy regulations.
- Prior experience working with insurance or intermediary regulators preferred.
- Law or similar degree from a top university preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal skills in English and Cantonese.
- Strong record in planning effectively and creating value.
- Ability to effectively track and give advice on new regulations and their implications on business activities.
- Ability to write clear, concise and accurate reports on legal and regulatory positions, investigation results and other matters as required.
- Able to support and embrace change in a fast-paced environment.
- Commercially focused, culturally sensitive with excellent communication skills and business acumen.
- High standard of integrity and professionalism with the ability to balance compliance with business objectives.
- Highly proactive and independent with excellent multi-tasking and organization skills.
